Rebecca Taylor, NC Coastal Pines Girl Scouts

Second grader, Skylar Santucci, has always loved animals. From a young age, she asked that birthday and holiday presents be cash that she could donate to the World Wildlife Fund. A member of Brownie Troop 867, like all Girl Scouts she “wants to make a difference in the world.” After visiting yard sales and craft fairs, this past summer she decided to begin making jewelry to sell with all profits going to wildlife research and rescue.
All her jewelry features animals both domestic and wild. She says her favorites are “sharks, tigers, and house cats.” She matches colors and beads to each animal charm using a wide variety of animals from sea creatures to birds and mammals.
Since August 2014, she has sold over one hundred and sixty necklaces and collected almost $1,000 in donations which she in turn donates to the World Wildlife Fund.
Pictures of Skylar’s work are featured on her Facebook page “Love Save Protect,” and special orders can be placed from there. You can also find Skylar’s work for sale at Wilmington Water Tours on the downtown Riverwalk, Myrtle Grove Animal Hospital, and Island Wellness Market at Carolina Beach.
Skylar had a very successful booth at the Salty Paws Festival, where she sold 60 necklaces, and she will post notice of any upcoming festivals or craft shows she will attend on her Facebook page.
