Wonder Box
Wonder Box is a monthly subscription box for children between the ages of 3 and 6. The boxes are developed by the team at education.com, an educational destination for parents, teachers and students.
As an educator, I was really excited to receive a Wonder Box to use with my 4 year old daughter. From the research I had done, I was aware that each box was designed to help develop specific skills that would be essential for kindergarten. The skills focused on are: patterning and sorting, number sense, letters and phonics, shape recognition, color exploration, fine motor skills, gross motor skills, reading readiness and starting science.
The box we received is called Once Upon A Time. It contained 3 projects including making a story cape, designing and creating a puppet and story cards. I knew that my daughter would love the cape and puppet as she is really into art projects but I was most pleased with the story cards. Each card has a different picture which allows for creativity in developing your own story. In addition to the 3 projects, there was a coloring book which told the story of Stone Soup and also a recipe to make your own soup.
With a focus on emergent literacy, I think this box is a perfectly wonderful teaching tool. It has allowed me to have fun with my daughter while working on skills that she will need upon entering elementary school.
Wonder Box is available in a monthly subscription for $19.99 a month or 3 months for $58.99. It is also available to give as a gift.
