Pinto bean burgers are wonderful alternatives to the beef version of this all-American meal. Not only are pinto beans a good source of protein and carbohydrates, they are low in fat. Here is a recipe for bean burgers that serves 4.
Ingredients
- 1 can (16 ounce) pinto beans, rinsed and well drained
- 1/2 cup shredded low-fat cheddar cheese
- 1/4 cup dry bread crumbs
- 2 tablespoons chopped green onions (with tops)
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
- 1/8teaspoon salt
- 1 egg white
Directions
- Mash beans in a medium bowl.
- Mix in cheese, bread crumbs, onions, Worcestershire sauce, pepper, salt and egg white.
- Shape into 4 patties.
- Spray 10 inch non-stick skillet with cooking spray.
- Cook in the skillet over medium heat about 10 minutes turning once until light brown.
- Serve on buns with your favorite burger toppings.
