ranch dressing
My family loves ranch dressing on salads, as a dip and even drizzled on things like baked potatoes and tacos. I always felt like I was providing my family with the healthiest version of ranch because I bought the pouch of seasoning mix and made my own by adding milk and mayonnaise. However, when I read the back of the packet one day, I noticed many ingredients that I didn't recognize.
I knew there had to be an easy recipe out there for our beloved ranch dressing so I looked it up on Pinterest. I happened upon a recipe from The Crafty Blog Stalker and decided to make it for my family. The result was great. Even my husband (who could be considered a "ranch snob") like this dressing. Here is my interpretation of the recipe that I found.
First you make the dry mix. For this you will need:
- 1/4 cup black pepper
- 1 1/2 cups parsley flakes
- 1/2 cup garlic salt
- 2 tablespoons Kosher salt
- 1/4 cup granulated garlic
- 3/4 cup granulated onion
- 2 tablespoons dill weed
Place all of these ingredients into a plastic bag that zips closed. Shake them all together. Transfer the mixture into an airtight container. I use a quart sized mason jar for storage.
When you are ready to make the dressing, mix one tablespoon of the dry mixture with the following in a bowl or salad dressing shaker:
- 1 cup mayonnaise
- 1 cup lite or fat-free buttermilk
- 3/4 cup of sour cream
Mix or shake well and refrigerate for about 2 hours before use.
