summer reader
School may be out, but summer is a great time for kids to read for enjoyment. Local libraries and a book store offer prizes and special activities for those that register for their summer reading programs.
- New Hanover County offers summer reading clubs for children of all ages. Registration has already begun online and can also be completed at the branch nearest you. Children ages 5 and under can track the books read or listened to over the summer, while ages 5-12 tracks what they read. Teens in grades 6-12 log their reading hours and share book reviews with other readers. Upon registration all participants must stop by their local library and pick up information about the club and their prize bag full of special treats and coupons. For information on summer story times and other fun library events provided by New Hanover County, check out this link http://host5.evanced.info/newhanover/sr/homepage.asp
- Brunswick County also offers a summer reading program for all school-aged children. Registration begins the second week in June and must be completed at the library. The six week program features weekly special guests and activities at the library branches concluding with a special celebration.
