There are many classic holiday television specials that families enjoy watching in December. Here is a list of old favorites and some new specials airing on television according to Detroit Free Press.
December 1 - CMA COUNTRY CHRISTMAS: The biggest stars in country music are aligning for a celebration of the holiday season, hosted by Jennifer Nettles. This show airs on ABC at 8 p.m.
December 2-
TOY STORY THAT TIME FORGOT: The latest from Pixar brings back all your favorite characters from the "Toy Story" franchise as the whole gang find themselves in a sticky situation when a set of newfangled, not-so-nice action figures takes charge. This show airs on ABC at 8 p.m.
A CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS: This one's a classic for many reasons. Chief among them: Charlie Brown's classic commentary on overcommercialization. Plus, the soundtrack is one of the few holiday albums retail workers don't tire of hearing by Dec. 25. This show airs on ABC at 8:30 p.m.
December 4- THE YEAR WITHOUT A SANTA CLAUS: When Santa calls in sick on Christmas Eve and the elves must handle his deliveries, things go awry. This show airs on ABC Family at 6 p.m.
December 5- HOW MURRAY SAVED CHRISTMAS: This new animated special is a heartwarming and funny musical based on the best-selling children's book of the same name. This show airs on NBC at 8 p.m.
December 9-
SANTA CLAUS IS COMIN' TO TOWN: Kris Kringle tries to deliver gifts to Sombertown, where toys are forbidden by the cranky-pants mayor. This show airs on ABC at 8 p.m.
RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER: Shunned for his glowing nose, Rudolph finds kindred souls on the Island of Misfit Toys, especially Hermey the Elf, the wannabe dentist. This show airs on CBS at 8 p.m.
December 13- FROSTY RETURNS: The invention of "Summer Wheeze," an aerosol spray that evaporates snow, puts Frosty's survival at risk again. This show airs on CBS at 9:30 p.m.
December 19- I WANT A DOG FOR CHRISTMAS, CHARLIE BROWN!: When Linus and Lucy's little brother, Rerun, declares he would like a dog of his own, Charlie Brown lets him do a trial run with Snoopy to prove he can handle the responsibility. This show airs on CW at 8 p.m.
December 23-
SHREK THE HALLS: As Shrek consults "Christmas for Village Idiots" to learn how to throw a proper holiday celebration for Fiona, Donkey and the rest of his friends share Christmas stories. This show airs on ABC at 8 p.m.
DISNEY PARKS FROZEN CHRISTMAS: Celebrate Christmas with the folks at Disneyland in California and Walt Disney World in Florida with their 31st annual parade. This year's parade has an extra "Frozen" twist and is sure to feature everyone's favorite princess sisters, Anna and Elsa, and their loyal snowy sidekick Olaf on the sunny sidewalks of Main Street, USA. This show airs on ABC at 8:30 p.m.
December 25-
DR. SEUSS' HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS: The cave-dwelling curmudgeon tries to stop Christmas from coming to Whoville. The animated classic precedes the live-action feature film from 2000 starring Jim Carrey. These shows begin at 8 p.m. on ABC.
