Summer is a great time to catch a movie with your family. Here is an overview of the new family movies coming out this summer.
Man of Steel will arrive in theaters on June 14. This movie is about a young Superman discovering his powers and learning about his extraterrestrial heritage. He must use his gifts to become the superhero he was meant to be and save Earth. This action film is not for small children due to fights and advanced themes, but would be good for older kids that enjoy this genre. This movie is rated PG-13.
Monsters University will open in theaters on June 21. In this prequel to Monsters Inc., viewers will learn how Mike and Sulley’s friendship began. This animated Disney/Pixar film will be shown in 2D and 3D and is rated G for all audiences.
Despicable Me 2 will be in theaters on July 3. This animated sequel to Despicable Me brings back Gru and the minions for more fun. The movie is about Gru being recruited by the Anti-Villain League to help deal with a powerful new super criminal. This movie is rated PG.
The Smurfs 2 is another summer sequel. It will be in theaters on July 31. In this film the Smurfs team up with their human friends in order to save Smurfette who has been kidnapped by Gargamel. This movie will be shown in 2-D and 3-D and has not yet been rated.
Planes will soar into theaters on August 9 in 2-D and 3-D. This action-packed animated comedy from Disney/Pixar is the story of Dusty, a plane with dreams of competing as a high-flying air racer, even though he is afraid of heights. With the help of a seasoned naval aviator, Dusty gains the confidence to reach heights he never dreamed possible. This film has not yet been rated.
