Family Restaurant Review: Front Street Brewery
Front Street Brewery
Front Street Brewery
Front Street Brewery, located in downtown, has been a favorite restaurant to locals since it opened in 1995. It is home to Wilmington’s only restaurant with a micro-brewery on site. With the brewery being one of its claims to fame, I asked myself: how does it fare as a family restaurant? My family and I decided to visit on a Saturday evening to get an answer to this question.
We arrived about 6PM and the restaurant was already packed with many diners, including families. We had to wait about 15 minutes to be seated which is not too bad for a weekend evening.
As we were seated, my daughter was given a kids menu that doubled as a coloring sheet and our drink order was taken by a friendly waitress. The restaurant has two levels and we were seated on the first level adjacent to the brewery and bar. Looking around, I noticed several big screen televisions that are great for keeping the kids and adults entertained. However, I was more impressed with the historic charm of the restaurant with all of its wooden features and gentle lighting. The diners and bar patrons were enjoying themselves creating a buzz throughout the restaurant. Front Street Brewery would not be the place to visit for a quiet family dinner.
The menu is impressive with many choices ranging from sandwiches, salads and burgers starting at $6.99 to entrees of chicken, ribs, steak and seafood that range in price up to $13.99. The restaurant has 11 different side items which make for numerous possibilities for dinner combinations. Fourteen items on the dinner menu are $7.99. For families on a budget, this is a great bargain for dinner! Kids have a choice of 5 different meals for $3.99 each which includes a drink. Families dining between 4 PM and 6 PM can also enjoy half-price appetizers.
We chose to order a bowl of Cheddar Ale soup to share as a starter. This was delicious. For dinner I chose the pulled chicken entrée which came with 2 side dishes and my husband selected a French Dip sandwich which came with one side item. My daughter picked the fried shrimp and fries for dinner. Our order was at our table within 15 minutes. Everything was hot and tasted fresh. We all enjoyed our crispy fries (mine were sweet potato) and our main dishes. Although I thoroughly enjoyed my pulled chicken, which had a spicy kick, I will order fried shrimp next time as my daughter’s shrimp were perfectly seasoned and crispy.
Although we didn’t order adult beverages on this visit, my husband and I have sampled the tasty beer selections offered at Front Street Brewery. Many of the entrées are also created with the use of the hand-crafted beer made at the brewery. Free tours of the brewery are also available daily from 3 PM-5 PM.
The restaurant is fully equipped to handle family dining, including a baby changing station in the restroom. They are open seven days a week from 11:30 AM until midnight.
Families looking for a lively local restaurant in downtown Wilmington with great prices and amazing food should visit Front Street Brewery.
