kids in car
Many families hit the road during the holidays to visit family and friends or simply go on vacation. These travels can prove to be long and boring for children as well as parents. In-car family games can help pass the time while being entertaining for all. Here are a few ideas to try:
- The License Plate Game- Spot a license plate, call out the letters on it and make up a phrase to go with the letters. For example “ KEW” could be “kittens eat watermelon”.
- Virtual Hide and Seek- One person will choose a spot in your home to “hide”. All other players take turns asking yes/no questions about where the person is. Once the room is discovered, the yes/no questions continue about the specific location until the “hidden person” is found.
- Scavenger Hunt- Create a list of things to look for as you are driving. The person that finds everything on the list first is the winner!
- The Alphabet Game- Starting with the letter “A”, try to find all the letters of the alphabet in order on signs, license plates, buildings, etc. Another more challenging variation of this game would be to find objects that start with the letters of the alphabet in order beginning with the letter “A”.
- I Spy- This is a great game for young children as well as older ones. Describe something that you see in the distance and see who can guess what you “spy”.
