Lumina Dancing
Wrightsville Beach, NC: Turn back the hands of time and relive Wrightsville Beach of the 1930s through 1960s on Sunday, August 28 from 4:00pm until 10:00pm during the 13th Lumina Daze Celebration at the Blockade Runner Resort on Wrightsville Beach. A nostalgic evening of wholesome fun is in store for all who attend this year’s Lumina Daze event.
Lumina Daze recalls Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina as it was when famous musicians performed at the legendary Lumina Pavilion, an island landmark for 68 years until it burned down in 1973. To help set the mood and evoke days gone by, four bands will provide live music. This year’s expanded musical lineup includes The Wilmington Big Band orchestra and Buddy Skipper & the Jetty Jumpers, featuring beach music classics with Carey Patterson and Pug West. The Dixieland All-Stars will also entertain with jazz favorites and the folk/rock duo Phil & Mark will perform music from the 50s, 60s, and 70s. Along with the music, there will be plenty of dancing, as well as food and drink. Special guest Jack Lane will share a collection of memorabilia from his days as an employee of Lumina Pavilion. Lane was the last manager of The Upper Deck, a small bar and grill that served Lumina guests from the 1950s until the early 1970s.
In addition to the ever-popular silent auction, this year there will also be a live auction to benefit the Wrightsville Beach Museum of History . The silent auction includes an assortment of fine art, services, and specialties from local businesses. Live auction highlights include a mountain vacation cabin, an Elvis impersonator, a private evening sail, lunch with a local author, and a painting by internationally renowned Wilmington artist George Pocheptsov.
