MomsRising
Chutes and Ladders
MomsRising is a grassroots organization of moms, and those who have a mom, working to build a nation where children, parents, and businesses thrive. They have over 28,000 NC members from every NC county, and have recently started a group in Wilmington. On Friday, April 26th from 10a-12p, they will be having a huge event and are inviting all who are interested in supporting investments in kids.
This latest statewide focus is a “Chutes & Ladders” tour, a series of creative on-the-ground events designed to educate our communities and decision makers about the investments that are essential to ensuring that all of NC’s children get the start they need to succeed and build a strong NC economy. They are partnering with The First 2000 Days Campaign and local Smart Starts to bring the tour to communities across the state. This is a completely nonpartisan effort.
Based on the classic children’s board game, the tour will feature a giant Chutes & Ladders board highlighting the public investments that are essential to ensuring all of NC’s children get the strong start they need to succeed. According to MomsRising, these include:
- quality, affordable early learning programs such as Smart Start and NC Pre-K;
- child care subsidies that allow parents to work and contribute to the economy;
- quality public K-12 education;
- infant mortality prevention programs; and access to health care for children provided through programs such as Medicaid and NC Health Choice.
They’ll be playing life-sized game at Smart Start of New Hanover County and inviting parents, kids, child care providers, business leaders, local elected officials, and lawmakers to join them.
It’s a fun, powerful way to remind our communities and leaders that investing in kids means investing in NC’s future!
