Alligator Adventure
Day 2: After a good night’s sleep, we headed to the resort restaurant for a buffet breakfast. The food was good and the service was great.
We walked on the beach and took advantage of the playground at the resort before checking out of Dunes Village. Then, we were off to Alligator Adventure!
Alligator Adventure is located on Highway 17 at Barefoot Landing. From the road, this attraction doesn’t seem like it could possibly be very impressive. However, when you get inside and see that it occupies 15 acres of wetland space, it becomes very exciting! The first thing you notice when you walk in is the expansive landscape of alligator habitats. There are almost 1000 American Alligators ranging in size from 3 foot juveniles to 14 foot adults.
The first thing we did was rush to see the live reptiles show at the amphitheater. We got a seat up front so that our daughter would have the opportunity to touch the reptiles. The educator/animal handler talked about a snake and an alligator and allowed the audience to touch each animal. This was very informative and entertaining for adults and children.
We made our way around the park and saw many alligators, crocodiles, snakes housed in a serpentarium, lizards, frogs, turtles, Siberian tigers, tropical birds, bats and finally lemurs. We ended our visit to Alligator Adventure with a lemur show. An educator spoke about the lemurs housed there and then went into the enclosure and fed the lemurs. My daughter loved watching the lemurs climb all over the employee and wouldn’t leave the exhibit until the lemurs had finished eating their food.
Alligator Adventure was educational and enjoyable. With its wide open spaces and variety of animals you could easily spend a good part of the day wandering about this park. For our family, however, it was time to head home!
Overall, we had a wonderful time in Myrtle Beach. There is so much to do that you could spend a week visiting attractions, but since it is so close we will stick to our day trips and overnight adventures.
