The Brunswick County Board of Education has decided to reinstate a staggered bell schedule for the upcoming 2013-2014 school year. Brunswick County went to a staggered school schedule during the 2011-2012 school year and many parents had negative feelings about the change.
The staggered schedule will save the school system about a million dollars in transportation costs. The money saved will help to pay for school resource officers in every elementary school, extra cameras and electronic door locks. These improved security measures were a major factor in making the decision to change the schedules.
The school board has two options currently under review and will take into consideration the wishes of parents and staff members on preferred start times. The board hopes a final decision will be made by May. The current options are:
Option 1:
- Elementary Bell Times 7:50 a.m. to 2:50 p.m.
- High School Bell Times 8:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.
- Middle School Bell Times 8:50 a.m. to 3:50 p.m.
Option 2:
- High School Bell Times 7:50 a.m. to 2:50 p.m.
- Middle School Bell Times 7:55 a.m. to 2:55 p.m.
- Elementary Bell Times 8:50 a.m. to 3:50 p.m.
