soap ingredients
Kids don't always enjoy washing their hands but foaming hand soap seems to make the task more pleasant. However, the foaming varieties of soap don't seem to last quite as long as the other options (at least in my house) and they can range in price from $3-$5 for an 8-10 ounce container.
The last time I purchased foaming hand soap, I resolved to use what was in the container and then try to make my own to refill the containers. So, when we had used up all of the soap, I searched Pinterest for a DIY foaming hand soap "recipe". I was happy to find a recipe on www.wellnessmama.com that called for only 4 ingredients (distilled water, liquid castille soap, olive oil and essential oils). The only ingredient that I needed to purchase was the liquid castille soap which I found at Trader Joe's for $9.99 for a 32 ounce bottle.
I decided after making the first batch of soaps that I could eliminate the essential oil from the recipe because my castille soap is peppermint (which gives the soap a lovely, light scent without the need for adding any extra essential oils). So, the recipe that I use has 3 simple ingredients and makes a lovely foaming soap for about 25 cents per 10 ounce bottle. That is really cheap for an all natural soap! Here is my recipe for foaming soap:
You will need: distilled water, liquid castille soap and olive oil
- Start with clean foaming soap dispensers (mine are 10 ounce dispensers).
- Pour in distilled water leaving about an inch of space at the top for the dispenser to to fit in.
- Measure out 1.5 tablespoons of castille soap (Dr.Bonner's brand makes several varieties that already have scented essential oils in them) and add it to the dispenser.
- Finally add 1/2 teaspoon of olive oil to extend the life of the soap dispenser.
- Place the top back on the dispenser, lightly swish around and the soap is ready to use.
