thinking putty
Remember all the fun you had as a child playing with Silly Putty? It was such a simple substance that could keep one entertained for hours. Now, thanks to Aaron Muderick, putty has gone from simple to complex. He invented Thinking Putty over ten years ago in an effort to create the "ultimate office toy".
Thinking Putty now comes in a variety of colors and effects. Options range from magnetic putty to heat sensitive and glow in the dark putty. There are more than 35 different varieties. My daughter and I had the opportunity to test out the heat sensitive and magnetic putties. Both varieties can be stretched, snapped, popped, torn and built. They also can be rolled into a ball and bounced.
The heat sensitive variety reacts to heat and cold by changing color. When you take the putty out of the can it is cold and once you begin kneading and playing with it, the heat transferred from your hands makes the color change. The magnetic putty comes with a very strong magnet that can be used to magnetize the putty. You can do many cool tricks with this putty and the magnet as seen in this video.
All putties are non-toxic and CPSIA compliant. They also have no odor, never dry out and don't leave a greasy feel on your hands. One of the best features of this product is that it is made in the USA by individuals with physical and intellectual disabilities who work as a team to develop vocational skills and economic self-sufficiency.
Tins of Thinking Putty range in price from $9 to $15 making them a great gift idea. They are available locally at Learning Express and online.
