Assembly of the Crab Pot Christmas tree is quick and easy!
After hearing commercials on the radio for Crab Pot Christmas Trees, I was curious to learn more about these unique holiday decorations.
After doing a little research, I discovered that the Crab Pot Christmas Trees are made in eastern NC and can also be considered a "green" product. They are reusable and are made from left over materials used to make crab pots. They were the brain-child of Nick Harvey, owner of Harvey and Sons (a commercial fishing equipment company). He wanted to find a purpose for the scraps from the crab pots they made and eventually developed the Crab Pot Tree. Then, he found a way to string lights on the tree so that it was still possible for it to be folded flat.
I was very impressed with the story of how these trees came to be but I wanted to know how easy it was to set up. So, I contacted the company and they sent a sample for me to try out.
The tree was shipped out quickly and I was happy to discover that the package it came in was very light and compact. The 3 foot tree in the box only weighed 6 pounds. Once I removed the tree from the box, there were only 4 steps to follow to set it up.
- Remove the twist ties holding the tree form together (it is pulled back into a flat triangle for shipping).
- Fan the tree open until opposite sides meet.
- Attach the opposite sides together with included twist ties to create a round tree.
- Plug the tree in and enjoy!
Set up of the tree took less than 5 minutes and the tree looks beautiful. It can be used indoors and also includes anchors for the ground so that it can be used outdoors as well. The strong coated metal used to construct the tree seems like it would endure the elements outside.
The Crab Pot Trees range in size from 1.5 feet tall to 8 feet tall and come in a variety of lighted styles including clear and colorful lights. They range in price from around $35- $330 depending on size and style and can be purchased locally at A Proper Garden, Fidler's Gallery, Lou's Flower World and Outer Banks Hammocks.
